About The Artist

Bujar Asllani

A native of Tirana - Albania, Bujar Asllani  was born June 4, 1951, into a family of traditional woodworking artisans.    Soon after discovering his innate talent for the arts, his father encouraged him to apply to “The National Lyceum of Arts”. He was awarded first place in the entrance competition, and began his artistic journey through the traditional European Art school. From here he went on to further his studies at the “University of Fine Arts of Tirana”


  • June 1969 - Obtained his B.F.A. from the University of Fine Arts of Albania (specializing in monumental and mural painting).
     
  • May 1973 - Worked as background Painter and Set designer for the National Radio/Television Station (Department of Décor).
     
  • September 1975 - Was made Assistant Professor at the University
    of Fine Arts of Tirana, where he taught Classical Painting, classical Drawing,
    and Figurative Composition.
     
  • March 1985 - Wrote and Published “The Technology of Painting”
     
  • January 1986 - Was promoted to Professor (M.F.A. equivalent) and started
    teaching “Technology and Techniques of Painting” along with other specialized subjects including 15-th century fresco etc.
     
  • November 1990 - Vice President of the League of Painters of Tirana.
     
  • April 1995 - Became Head of the Department of Applied painting and Techniques at the University of Fine Arts of Tirana, Albania.
     
  • April 1993 - Was chosen as “Artist of the Year” to represent the country in
    the area of visual art during Albanian Culture Week in Istanbul/Turkey.
     
  • 1996-1999 - Active member of the Board of Directors of the
    “National Gallery of Arts” (Albania)
     
  • June 1998 - Was commissioned to Design the Military insignia
    for the Albanian Army.
     
  • August 1999 - Moved to Toronto Canada. There he continues to add to his artistic repertoire with many new works, some of which are featured here.
